The Hektoen Institute of Medicine’s Nurses & the Humanities group is delighted to present a study and travel opportunity
The art of pilgrimage, a spiritual enterprise, entails the reflective interplay of inner sacred spaces and outer sacred places.
The process of the journey as well as the energy of the sacred places will enhance our consideration of four foundational spiritual principles and practices: truth-seeking, imagination, peace/harmony, and hospitality.
During our travels we will consider major insights of four spiritual expressions: Dominican, Franciscan, Benedictine, and Jesuit spiritualities.
Although most would associate these spiritualities with Christianity, and specifically, Catholicism, we will consider them from international, intercultural, and inter-religious perspectives.
To experience both the process of pilgrimage and the energy of spiritual “hubs” we will consider each of these spiritualities in foundational places of its growth.
Thus, we will spend time in Rome, Assisi and Subiacco. Because the arts are intimately connected with spirituality, we will steep ourselves in the art, music and poetry associated with these spiritualities..
