Illinois Health Care Initiative

Hektoen is collaborating with Susan Avila, RN, MPH, of the John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital of Cook County Department of Trauma, on the Illinois Health Care Initiative. This project is funded by Illinois Violence Prevention Authority.

This project will expand system-wide training for the elder abuse and neglect curriculum, implement the training for health care workers on youth violence and leverage coalition work directed to policies affecting violence among youth and elders. The four-hour elder abuse and neglect curriculum created in the 2006-07 funding cycle will be further edited and shared with professional organizations increasing its availability to health workers both within and outside of the Bureau of Health. We have expanded this project to another Bureau of Health Services entity, the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH). The CCDPH runs a network of family planning and STD clinics throughout the county caring for populations often not seen in traditional primary care settings. Their commitment to training and setting of protocols and competencies will strengthen the Bureau’s health care prevention and response efforts. Additionally our partnership with CCDPH strengthens our capacity to affect policies directed towards the prevention of elder abuse/neglect and youth violence.
