The Hektoen Institute has a long history of partnering with governmental organizations to deliver public health grant programs. It has evolved over the years into a vehicle to operate externally funded research, serving as a health care fiscal administrator for a wide variety of programs for county, city, and state-level entities.

One of its main partners is the Cook County Health & Hospitals System, which currently cares for more than 300,000 patients each year in its hospital and outpatient facilities. Its physicians comprise experts in many fields, providing a high level of specialized medicine as well as carrying out a variety of research projects. Hektoen works with programs and investigators throughout the system to further their mission.

Hektoen is also actively involved with the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center, a clinic dedicated to the prevention, care, and research of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. The Center offers primary and specialty medical care, dental care, social and support services, prevention and education programs, and opportunities to participate in research. Since it opened its doors in 1998, the Center has remained one of the largest HIV/AIDS clinics in the United States, and Hektoen has been a key partner from the time of the Center’s inception.
