Position Summary

The Infection Prevention and Control Consultant will work with the Illinois Department of Public Health’s healthcare-associated infection team to provide infection prevention and control training and support to healthcare facilities throughout Illinois.  This includes:

  • Providing infection prevention and control training for public health staff
  • Conducting remote and in-person facility infection control assessments
  • Reporting on findings of abovementioned assessments to individual facilities and the IDPH team
  • Conduct follow up(s) as needed with facility per recommendations or findings made during infection control assessments

 Specific Responsibilities

The Infection Prevention and Control Consultant will be expected to:

  • Create and distribute communication products to healthcare providers and other stakeholders
  • Collect and enter observational data into multiple databases including REDCap
  • Collect and analyze hand hygiene and environmental markings data
  • Develop and review infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • Conduct onsite and remote infection control assessments at healthcare facilities and provide recommendations, technical assistance, and follow up reports
  • Serve as an educator and participate in educational programs as needed
  • Summarize and present on latest recommendations and guidelines as needed
  • Synthesize recent infection control literature to inform infection prevention and control strategies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications   

Candidates for this position must have either a Master of Science in Nursing, Public Health, or related field and have at least five years’ experience in the field of infection prevention and control. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology required. Candidates must possess strong critical thinking, project management, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills.  Proficiency with Microsoft office suites required and familiarity with electronic reporting systems for data collection and surveillance preferred. Candidate must also have reliable transportation and be willing to travel throughout the assigned public health region.
