Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Project Manager and Principal Investigator, the Retention Specialist will work on a research study at the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center, supported by Gilead Sciences, Inc.

The Retention Specialist will be responsible for identifying eligible individuals living with HIV who are not currently on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and may be out of care for referral to the COMEBACK research study. At screening, they will administer assessment tools to determine participant needs and barriers to care.  The Retention Specialist will then be the primary contact for participants throughout their participation in the study, empowering them to return to care and remain adherent to ART.  This will include tasks such as: visit reminders, transportation and childcare coordination, and check-in phone calls.

Responsibilities

  • Research tasks include: recruitment, screening for eligibility, consenting participants, delivering assessments, and data entry
  • Establish rapport and build positive working relationships with CORE Center staff and patients
  • Keep detailed records of recruitment activities to submit to supervisor on a regular basis
  • Maintain candidate/study participant confidentiality
  • Conduct participant field outreach and locate participants, as needed
  • Complete required computer-based study trainings
  • Supervising student interns in retention in care activities

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and non-judgmental approach to engaging participants
  • Motivated, self-directed individual
  • Ability to communicate with strangers about sensitive behavioral topics such as HIV and health status
  • Ability to manage stressful situations
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; some college with 5 years of experience working within a medical system or with people living with HIV will be considered

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience recruiting for medical or social science research studies
  • Experience working with people with HIV/AIDS
  • Master’s Degree in public health, social work, or related field
