JOB SUMMARY

Provides clinical expertise and regulatory oversight to the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS and the AIDS Clinical Trials Group with Principal Investigator regarding scientific aspects of studies; manage the regulatory aspects of the trials; maintain and assure quality patient care for HIV positive and negative children and youth in the study.

Coordinate:

  • Research/study coordinator works closely with the clinical Adolescent medicine site personnel (Clinicians, mental health providers, case managers, etc.) to serve as a liaison to the Adolescent administrative sites.
  • Screens potential study participants for trial eligibility; arrange and conduct all patient clinic visits as specified by the study protocol.
  • Ensure efficient operations for clinical trials research participants through assignment of studies, participation, and management workload.
  • Ensure adherence to protocol requirements
  • Conduct the research study, and monitors and reviews case reports forms as necessary.
  • Ensure availability of research protocol supplies and resources.
  • Maintains system to provide patient compensation

Ensure regulatory compliance:

  • Maintain files on all protocols in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Submit applications for approval of new protocols to the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County Systems (CCHHS) Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Submit progress reports to IRB as required
  • Submit amendments of protocols and Informed Consent forms to IRB as needed
  • Participate in Research Committee meetings

 Ensure quality of data:

  • Collects research/clinical trial specific data and ensures accurate data entry and quality improvement data
  • Maintain source documentation
  • Complete case report forms after each study visit in a timely manner
  • Conduct data entry as required by each study and responds to delinquency reports; identifying trends in data collection, entry and reporting as identified by delinquency reports and developing strategies for resolution.
  • Assure compliance with data reports

 Ensure subject medical care:

  • Educate patients regarding study protocols; monitor patient progress and changes in status throughout course of study
  • Monitor patient compliance with specific protocol (including drug administration); provide instruction and counsel as needed
  • Ability to perform venipuncture sticks, start IV lines, and assess catheter integrity
  • Monitor any side effects and toxicities and report to physicians
  • Deliver primary care in conjunction with the client’s primary care team

Qualifications:

  • Nurse Practitioner licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in Illinois.
  • 2 years experience in research preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years experience as a nurse practitioner preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in clinical care of clients with HIV.
  • Experience with Adolescents and young adults
  • Sensitivity to special adolescent needs and the cultural diversity of clients by John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County/RMR CORE Center
  • High level of computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred
