During the first half-century of its existence, the investigators of the Hektoen Institute focused largely on laboratory, basic science, and clinical research. In the 1990s the emphasis changed largely to research into the epidemiological aspects of disease and its prevention and treatment in the community.
The Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center (a community health center of Cook County Health in Chicago, Illinois) is a clinical research site of multiple trials networks, including the ACTG, ATN, CoVPN, HPTN, IMPAACT, MWCCS.
